Lisbon works well as two distinct days: the riverside monuments of Belém, followed by the hills and lanes around the castle and cathedral. Keep the Belém visits together rather than crossing the city repeatedly. The old-town day involves hills and uneven paving, so allow time for breaks. Check entry arrangements for the tower and monastery before setting out; seeing their exteriors still gives the riverside walk a clear focus.
