3 days in Valencia: old town, Turia Gardens and the sea

Valencia's old centre, futuristic buildings and beach are three different outings. Giving each its own day makes a more useful first visit than trying to see them all between lunch and dinner. This route needs no hire car and leaves the beach flexible for the weather.

The route at a glance

  1. Day 1: The old town and its market
  2. Day 2: Turia Gardens and the City of Arts and Sciences
  3. Day 3: Cabanyal and the beach

Day 1: The old town and its market

Begin around the Central Market and La Lonja, checking which interiors are open during your visit. Continue towards the cathedral area and Plaza de la Virgen, then spend the afternoon in the old streets rather than rushing out to the beach. El Carmen gives you plenty of room to wander between stops.

A market morning depends on its trading days and hours. If it is closed, swap the order of your days rather than expecting the food stalls to operate whenever the surrounding streets are busy.

Day 2: Turia Gardens and the City of Arts and Sciences

Follow a manageable stretch of the Turia Gardens before continuing to the City of Arts and Sciences. Its outdoor architecture is a visit in itself; choose an indoor attraction only if you want to give it several hours. Use a bus or taxi for the longer return if you have already walked enough.

The complex is not one single museum ticket. Decide which building you want to enter before booking, and avoid adding every attraction simply because they share a setting.

Day 3: Cabanyal and the beach

Take public transport towards Cabanyal and the seafront. Spend time on the neighbourhood streets, then walk a section of Malvarrosa beach and allow a long lunch. If beach weather is poor, replace this day with a museum and another central neighbourhood instead of forcing an exposed coastal walk.

For a paella meal, choose a restaurant and book where needed. A leisurely lunch fits this day better than trying to combine the coast with a distant excursion.

Make the practical details work

Stay in or near the centre for a short first visit, or choose a beach base if the sea is the priority and accept the journeys inland. One location rarely puts every part of Valencia on the doorstep.

Use current transport information to compare individual journeys with a pass. Walking the full distance from the centre to the sea and back is optional.

Budget separately for your selected City of Arts and Sciences attraction, other interiors and transport. The gardens, streets and beach give the itinerary flexibility without relying on invented ticket or hotel prices.
