A route with room to enjoy it
A seven-day outline with four nights around Ubud and two nights on the southern coast. Days one and seven allow for flights. Swap the order to suit arrival time; choose one coastal base instead of changing hotels every day.
Arrive and settle near Ubud
Arrange the transfer to your accommodation using your actual landing time. Keep the rest of the day empty apart from food and settling in. If you arrive late and do not want the onward drive, consider an airport-area night and reduce the next day rather than starting the holiday exhausted.
Confirm tomorrow’s plans with your accommodation, including the pickup point if your property is outside town. Do not promise a sunset temple visit on arrival day: immigration, luggage and traffic can use the margin you thought you had.
If you have more energy: Take a short walk near your accommodation if daylight and energy allow.
A day in central Ubud
Explore the centre around Ubud Palace and the market area, choosing a cultural visit or gallery that interests you. Stop for lunch and allow time to browse. If your accommodation is outside the centre, plan how you will get back rather than assuming a walkable route.
Choose one afternoon activity, such as a cooking class or museum, and check its details before booking. Leave the evening for a meal nearby. A simple first full day helps you judge how much heat, walking and road travel you want for the rest of the week.
If you have more energy: Choose a performance if its confirmed schedule fits your evening; do not rely on an assumed nightly timetable.
Rice terraces with a small route
Make the countryside north of Ubud the focus, with Tegallalang as one possible main stop. Agree a limited route with your driver rather than collecting distant viewpoints across the island. Check walking conditions, access and charges before starting a terrace walk.
Leave the afternoon for lunch and a return at a comfortable pace. Rice fields are working landscapes; stay on permitted paths and ask before entering private land. If heavy rain makes the walk unsuitable, switch to an indoor activity rather than forcing the original plan.
If you have more energy: Arrange a guided walk suited to your ability and weather, replacing other stops to keep the day manageable.
Your own Ubud day
Use the day for a workshop, a local cultural visit or time at your accommodation. If you want a temple excursion, choose one after checking the location and visitor rules. A smaller route leaves more time at the place itself.
Confirm the coastal transfer for tomorrow and any check-in arrangements. This day can also absorb a delayed arrival or poor weather earlier in the week. Keep an optional activity genuinely optional instead of booking every hour in advance.
If you have more energy: Add a booked class that fits your interests, with clear transport and cancellation arrangements.
Move once to the southern coast
Transfer to your chosen coastal base and treat the drive as part of the day. For this outline, use the Jimbaran or Uluwatu area if you want to make tomorrow’s temple visit practical. Compare the exact location and road access before choosing a property.
After check-in, stay nearby for lunch and an easy coastal afternoon. Beach conditions vary: follow local flags and advice rather than assuming every attractive stretch is suitable for swimming. Avoid adding an excursion to another distant resort on the same day.
If you have more energy: Take a short local outing if the transfer was easy, keeping the evening close to your new base.
Uluwatu and a slow coastal day
Leave the morning loose, then plan a visit to Pura Uluwatu if it interests you. Check visitor access and dress requirements, respect worship areas and follow on-site instructions. Keep belongings secure around monkeys and stay on marked paths near the cliffs.
If you want the Kecak performance, check availability and ticket inclusions separately from temple admission. Arrange the return journey before leaving your accommodation and allow extra time around evening traffic. Skip the performance if a quieter visit is a better fit.
If you have more energy: Choose one nearby beach or viewpoint, with safe access, instead of crossing the island again.
Leave room for departure
Keep the final day close to your accommodation. Arrange checkout, luggage storage if needed and the airport transfer around your actual flight. Ask locally about journey conditions; a map distance alone is not enough to set your departure time.
Enjoy breakfast or a final meal without adding a timed attraction. If your flight is late, use a nearby activity only when there is a clear plan for your bags, a shower if needed and the onward transfer.
If you have more energy: Browse for a final gift nearby, leaving time to pack and check baggage limits.
Plan the practical details
Choose the coast for your priorities
Jimbaran or Uluwatu supports this route’s southern focus. If you prefer a different beach base, change day six accordingly rather than assuming every coast is equally convenient. Four Ubud nights and two coastal nights are a suggested split, not reserved accommodation.
Transport and spending
Budget for airport and inter-base transfers, local journeys, meals and the admissions or classes you choose. Confirm driver routes, waiting time and pickup arrangements. Do not assume a long list of stops can fit into a short hire. This outline avoids requiring scooter hire.
Before travel
Check current entry requirements and local visitor guidance for your nationality and dates. Check site access, weather and beach conditions during the trip. Photographs show destinations; they are not a promise of conditions or a view from a particular hotel.
